Why people take Alaskan Vacations

Alaska has become a popular spot to take a vacation.  There are a number of reasons that people choose to take Alaskan Vacations instead of soaking up the sun and lying on the beach.  For one thing, it is different from any other place you can choose to go.  For another, it is wild, breathtaking, and majestic.

First and foremost, Alaska is mostly untouched wilderness.  That means that, unlike the rest of country, man has not destroyed its beauty by cutting down trees, paving over it and building on it.  In addition, it also means that it is home to some spectacular views.  These include many mountains and glaciers like you have never seen or experienced before.

In addition to the scenery, there is an insane amount of wildlife.  Many cannot be seen anywhere else in the world.   This includes the Kodiak Brown Bear which is the world’s largest bear species.  In addition, you may also spot, amongst other animals, a bald eagle.  That is because Alaska is home to the world’s greatest concentration of bald eagles.  Plus, where else can you go where Moose will walk up to your hotel window?

Many people choose to do Alaska via cruise ship.  That is fine.  However, you miss most of the state that way.  Another way to go is by Alaska Railroad.  You can take this option on its own or add it to your vacation package.

There are numerous choices when it comes to Alaskan Train Tours.  You can take a simple day trip, or travel to a certain destination.  There are also packages available on the five different routes that the trip takes.  Regardless of which one you pick, you will travel on land that cars cannot.  In addition, the train also has open air cars and large windows from which you are encouraged to take pictures.

The Alaska Railroad travels over 400 miles it goes through Kenai Fjords National Park in Seward.  It lets you see Anchorage, Talkeetna, and Denali National Park before it heads to Fairbanks.  The railroad sets up pre-planned accommodations for each night and can also book excursions in each destination you plan to stop. However, if you are not interested in a full railroad package with hotels and tours, other packages are available.

Moreover, there are smaller rail excursions available and you can choose between a self-guided tour or a small group tour, a larger group tour, wilderness lodge vacations, as well as photography tours.  Within each type of tour, there are a number of packages from which you can choose depending on how long you plan to stay in Alaska and your budget.

So, instead of packing your bathing suit and heading to the shore for the same old vacation, book a railroad tour of the 49th state.  You will not be disappointed as long as you have a good camera and plenty of batteries and memory for it.  Who knows, you may even bump into one of the Palins.
